This institution, which has been functioning since 1992, assembles within it all the ports and port terminals of the country and all those people or institutions that perform related activities and contribute to the fulfillment of the objectives of the Argentine Port Council, which are to foment the better development and expansion of the fluvio-maritime port activity, petitioning and acting before the national, provincial and/or municipal public authorities or before public institutions, State, prívate or mixed, with respect to matters related to the realization of its institutional objectives and/or to the defense of the interests of the sector.

Furthermore, it endeavours to conduct studies and research on the promulgation and modification of laws or regulations pertaining to its area of interest submitting them before the corresponding powers, and to promote closeness and reciprocal understanding among the different sectors, insuring a harmonious relationship among them. Its objectives also include organising conferences, congresses, exhibits, seminars and other similar activities, and maintaining relations with similar institutions abroad, to which it may become associated or federated as long as they pursue identical! interests or similar institutional objectives, all of these non-profit.

It also endeavours to establish the bases for the specialization and implementation of projects, and, striving for excellence and achievement, it has taken upon itself the task of incrementing and perfecting external and internal relations and active participation with national and international organizations whose ends are compatible with the spirit of the creation of the Argentine Port Council.
